罗宾·怀特饰演的律师Edee Mathis满怀悲伤，亚洲决定把自己的痕迹从社会中抹去。咨询了网络上的求生专家后，亚洲她“消失”去了美国最人迹罕至的地带之一：怀俄明州的肖松尼族国家森林。Mathis住在木屋里，学习自己打猎、捕鱼、种植，对抗当地严寒的冬天和残酷的地貌，以及会杀人的野兽。此时，她遇到了印第安人Joseph，为此，她开始直面内心的恶魔，并惊讶地发现，自己的求生意志其实比想象的强烈。
