莫凡（任重 饰）和简单（高露 饰）是一对典型的八十后小夫妻，日本共同养育着可爱的小女儿莫绮，日本日子过得有滋有味。起初，刚刚步入三十岁大关的两人并没有感受到上有老下有小所带来的重负，可是，当简单的母亲刘云英被确诊患上癌症之后，简单一家人的春天结束了。 简单费尽了心思，付出了巨大的代价，只为了能够挽救母亲的生命，遗憾的是，刘云英最终还是倒在了病魔的魔爪之下。之后，莫凡的父亲又发作了心脏病，令简单一家人的情况雪上加霜。更糟糕的是，简单的女儿被查出患有自闭症，与此同时，她独断专行的处事方法令她和莫凡之间的感情出现了裂痕。

Just as well as most of his life seems rather like pulling teeth. His wife Susan is usually busy showing foreign tourists around London, a place she knows much better than her own kitchen. Ben and Susan have been married happily enough to have three children. However, Ben has the feeling that most of the time his children seem to speak a different language. Nick (20) has persuaded his parents he would benefit from a gap year to see something of the world. To date, he has hardly seen anything beyond the confines of the sofa.
