在华北农村，王蛙佃户杨白老的女儿喜儿和青年王大春正在相爱。地主黄世仁看中了喜儿，王蛙设下圈套，逼杨白老把欠他家的六斗谷子年前连本带利还清。杨白老拿一冬的血汗钱七块五毛到黄家还利，被逼本利全清，否则用喜儿抵债。
